| Bio: | Bossy and loud-mouthed throughout my youth, I was the insecure fat girl in school who never had a boyfriend. Thank God all that is behind me... well, almost all of it. I'm married. I have a cat, a condo, and a car. I work as a professional administrator and my job is fairly decent, despite the many rants you might catch on this journal. But enough of the boring crap... Back in about 2004, my husband and I found ourselves engulfed by the budding Star Wars fandom community here in Calgary, and we haven't looked back. Not content with only one form of awesome, we launched ourselves into "fandom" in general, and discovered countless other manifestations of awesome - everything from Arwen to Zombies. It has afforded us hours of hobbying (costuming and prop replica building), unforgettable vacations to exotic lands (Georgia in the summertime - is there anything sweeter?), and friendships more loving than anyone could dare to hope for. Nothing makes me laugh harder when people tell me (or my friends) to "get a life", or that we have "too much time on our hands". I've lived the life of a mundane. I've spent my evenings in front of the television watching re-runs of Friends until my eyes bugged out of my head. I've arrived at work on Monday morning with nothing to share about my weekend other than, "slept, went out for supper, cleaned house a bit," and nothing to talk about besides the tabloid sensationalism that somehow seeped into my brain while I was zoned out in front of the T.V.. "Get a life"? Well, I can try, but I'll have to squeeze it in somewhere after my belly dance class and before the Fan Force meeting... oh, but that means I'll lose a night or two of working on my costume, so it will have to be after my trip to Atlanta... and then there's my birthday and then Halloween, so that won't work. Maybe after Christmas? No... there's a luau that weekend. I guess I'm S.O.L. Oh, and you know what? I'm still fat. And that's cool. Because guess what? Obesity doesn't kill people. Inactivity and poor nutrition does. Say this out loud: You don't need to lose weight. You don't even need to "drop a dress size". You need to move. And you need to eat. And you need to love. This journal will be, for the most part, an account of my life and the many and fleeting persuits I undertake in fandom and handycraft, my adventures in belly dance, and other personal thoughts. (That last sentence used to say, "other random ramblings," but I've come to the realization how often the words "random" and "ramblings" appear in descriptions of people's online journals. It's outrageous, and, I'm sure these words have better uses than excusing people from their thoughts, as if what they write isn't important or meaningful. If it's so random, why waste your time? More importantly, why should I waste mine?) | ||
